I've been pretty quiet on this site aside from the comments section for over a year now, but that's changing! The release of Unity's experimental Linux editor coincided with a slowdown in development of the unannounced project I had been working on, so I have decided to take Homestead off the backburner! I'll be posting weekly screenshots of my development on this project, and here are a few to start things off:
Here's a little overview of the testing area I set up. The terrain textures are the only assets not created by me, although I did modify them to work with a custom terrain shader I wrote to create the hard-edged splat effect.
Hand-made grass, trees, and character! Pay no mind to the placeholder HUD indicator.
Showing off my custom "SolarCycle" system! It handles the time of day, sun position, light color, hand-painted skybox fading, fog color and more!
Night-time shot with a closeup of Jack, the player character. Some custom shader work makes the "eyes-over-hair-Zelda-Wind-Wakery effect" happen. Ready to get farming!
Homestead is a farming RPG! I don't have an estimation on the completion date of this project other than "when it's done". I'll be plugging away at it in my free time. See you next week!
